The thing about shallow people from the beau monde is that they shouldn’t be played shallowly when brought to the screen.
Sonam Kapoor in a ‘tailor’-made role (where more moolah seems to have been spent on tailoring her chic outfits than on exploring the locations, sound sights scents and, yes, sense of this embarrassing world of excessive self-preening) gets the Jane Austen character right. Quite a leap for the actress.
When she had played the confused lover-girl in Saawariya, Sonam had imposed her own natural-born confusions on the character – rendering it shaky and disembodied.

In this Hindi Movie Aisha, Sonam is far more in control of her character’s misguided emotional compulsions. The fact that the young actress knows this label-centric designer world of chic shenanigans so well, helps Sonam master and contour her character’s art of self-deception in a way the original author of the character would have approved.
Sonam’s world harks back to Jane Austen’s giddy-headed British gentry class where match-making was not an idle chatter. It was religion. When placed in the neo-rich spiced-up politically-charged atmosphere of Delhi, Jane Austen’s characters seem to come alive in unexpected spurts of sassy splendour and unbridled joie de vivre. You can’t help laugh at these young, often-aimless, people’s self-importance.
Let’s not forget that Jane Austen had applied great intellectual strength to her frail and shallow people. Aisha converts Austen’s world into a frail feisty frolicsome fashion fiesta shot with an empowering affection for the natural light that bathes these somewhat affected people.
Debutante director Rajshree Ojha gets into this world of titillating trivia and designer dreams with a wink and smile that goes a long way in building a showcase around these metropolitan mannequins on a single-minded match-making prowl.

The casting is as dead-on as it can get. While the guys Abhay Deol, Cyrus Sahukar and Arunoday Singh play the Brain, Nerd and Hunk with absolute relish, it’s the girls who keep you chuckling and tch-tch-ing.
Neha Dubey and debutante Amrita Puri put in pitch-perfect performances as sahelis bullied into alliances that seem manipulated on earth rather than arranged in heaven. They have a bright future ahead, single or not.
But the film belongs to Sonam Kapoor, make no mistake of that. She makes the best of a rather rare opportunity for an Indian leading lady to be part of a Bollywood film that salutes Victorian mores and Delhi’s elitist affectations in one clean cool sweep.
Engaging and endearing – Aisha makes you wonder if there’s anything more important in the world than finding the right match.

This is an industry whichv is going through a very bad phase. Known for making extremely realistic movies this industry was in its peak during the 70s and 80s. With the coming in of satellite television and Video piracy this industry has become sick and is still unable to revive. Stars from Kerala too have migrated and finding value for their talent in the Tamil Industry and Telugu industry.
This was a year fro the Malayalam Actresses in Kollywood. All the hits had a Kerala actress in it. Asin starred in Varalaru History of the godfather,Sandhya In Dishyum, Nayantara in Vallavan, Gopika in yamtan magan.

Asin was the face of the year in 2005 every movie which came around Diwali had her. She starred with Surya in Ghajini, Vikram in Majaa and with Vijay in Sivakasi. All the three movies were hits. Sandhya made her debut with the film kadal and walked off with the best actress award for the film. Gopika has impressed everybody with her simplicity and great eyes. This actress is going places without exposing anything at all. This year was a major year for Nayantara. This actress used act with the senior stars as she too was big built and looked good with them. Look at her this year she has shed off all the extra pounds and is looking sleek in Vallavan and E. Both the movies have been hits this year and she is riding high.

Mumbai, June 30, 2009: Bollywood’s latest release ‘New York’ has grossed Rs 35 crore on its first weekend. This is a good news forBollywood
and business of cinema in the country.(it was released on June 26)

New York that has John Abraham, Neil and Katrina kaif in lead role begins in the United States in 2008 with the arrest by the FBI of Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh), a young Muslim man originally from Delhi, after guns were found in the trunk of a taxi cab he had been driving.

New York-Bollywood film

New York features John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, and is set against the backdrop of the 9/11 terror attacks on the New York city.Neil is then taken into custody and interrogated by FBI Agent Roshan (Irrfan Khan), also a Muslim man originally from South Asia who has been living in the United States for twenty years.

After a period of time, Omar discovers that he is wanted by the FBI in order to spy on a former college friend, Samir or Sam (John Abraham), whom he hasn’t seen in seven years and who the FBI believes is a terrorist. In the process, he discovers that Sam has married Maya (Katrina Kaif), another college friend, and that they have a young son, Danyal (Aidan Wagner).

Roshan orders Omar to tell him everything he knows about Sam. The film then flashes back to September 1999 when Omar begins New York State University as an international student on scholarship. He is befriended by Maya who is his student counselor.

The average occupancy in multiplexes for the weekend stood at around 80-85 per cent, the highest since January, according to trade experts who track films’ collections. This was mainly on account of the release of New York and Terminator Salvation.
This is significant for both Bollywood and the 250-plus multiplexes, as they saw the monthly box office collections plummet to around Rs 10-15 crore, especially for April and May, when film producers and exhibitors were on a strike, which saw almost no new Hindi film release.
