Excel Entertainment’s Ritesh Sidhwani, the co-producer of the Don franchise, spoke candidly about the much-awaited third part, Don 3. What he said is bound to disappoint fans.

Don is among the most successful film franchises to have come out of the Hindi film industry. The franchise, headlined by Shah Rukh Khan, is centered on a deceitful yet charming Indian underworld boss. Don: The Chase Begins (2006) and Don 2: The King is Back (2011) enjoy a massive fan following and it is therefore, moviegoers are eagerly waiting for the franchise’s third part – Don 3: The Final Chapter.

The film has reportedly been in works for a very long time. This December will mark eight years of the last Don release but little is known about the makers’ plan to take the franchise forward. Yes, they have said time and again that Don 3 is very much on their mind but nothing in this regard has been confirmed ever.

Recently in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Excel Entertainment’s Ritesh Sidhwani, the co-producer of the franchise, was asked about Don 3. And this time around, he rather straightforwardly said that he didn’t know when the film will happen.

He has been quoted by the tabloid as saying, “We are still working on it and don’t know when it will happen. It’s a keenly awaited franchise and we can’t disappoint the fans.”

This is definitely a huge blow to movie maniacs who were expecting the film to go on floors this year following some reports that claimed that director Farhan Akhtar had the script ready and was all set to begin shooting it. Other reports said that Shah Rukh had opted out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic exclusively for Don 3.

But since Farhan is said to begin filming his sports film Toofan with director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra this July onwards, Don 3, it appears, has been put on the back burner again. Or was it always so?
