Padmavati release postponed: Is it good for Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh’s film?

Padmavati’s shooting was disrupted in Jaipur when a religious group vandalised the sets and even beat up director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the pretext of portraying factually incorrect history.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati is facing troubles since the beginning, but the director seems determined to shoot it his way at any cost. The film stars Deepika Padukone as Padmavati while Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh will be seen in pivotal roles.

The film’s shooting was disrupted in Jaipur when a religious group vandalised the sets and even beat up Bhansali on the pretext of portraying factually incorrect history. However, Bhansali kept shooting the film at other places while his reps explained that the film doesn’t misrepresent history in any form.

Later, Deepika Padukone became busy with her Hollywood project and that also delayed the shooting. The makers then announced that Padmavati will hit the screens on November 17, 2017. The team believed they could finish the project by the middle of October with at least one month in hand to promote their film. But this isn’t possible anymore.

DNA quotes a source close to the film’s unit who says, “SLB had an October 20 deadline, which is impossible to meet now. The workers’ strike took away a few important days. Meanwhile, two of the principal actors — Deepika and Shahid — also had free dates, so they took off on vacations. A lot of the shoot is still left. The major chunk may have been shot, but some big action sequences are still left. Ranveer’s portions as the young Alauddin Khilji, too, remain to be shot.”

This delay has forced Bhansali to postpone the release date to next year, and he is looking for a safe Friday. If reports are to be believed then he is eyeing February 9, 2018 as his release date. If this happens then Padmavati will have to battle it out with Anushka Sharma’s film Pari. However, the new release date is yet to be confirmed.

Padmavati has Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles while Ranveer Singh will be playing a negative character in the film.

The delay could turn out to be a bad thing for Padmavati because would be hearing about it for more than a year by the time it releases. It may kill the curiosity factor around the film that generated with its announcement or even after the Jaipur controversy.
