Shah Rukh Khan’s gangster film Raees saw a boost in its revenue on the Republic Day holiday.

After opening to a massive start of Rs 20.42 crore, Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan- starrer Raees continued its winning streak at the box office on its second day. The film, which proved the ‘January jinx’ wrong, got a boost in ticket sales given the Republic Day holiday, and early estimates suggest that the film raked in around Rs 26 crore.

The film released on about 2700 screens and is expected to earn about Rs 26 crore on day two at the box office according to early trade estimates. Till now, the record belongs to Salman Khan’s Jai Ho with Rs 25 crore earned on R-Day in 2014.

Shah Rukh Khan’s performance as gangster Raees Alam has been hailed by some as his career-best, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the cop who is out to get him. Raees marked the Bollywood debut of Pakistani actor Mahira Khan, who played SRK’s love interest.
